Carry the Light

First: some difficult news.    Mara "Harmony Pax" Yu died on July 18th, 2026 after a brief and unexpected illness. Her death has shocked and saddened all of us in the NYC Pagan community. Mara is and will always be a shining light. She was whip smart, inquisitive, kind, and generous. Her scholarship and inspiring questions were second to none. Any time you saw her, you'd come away with something to contemplate. Which is one of the highest compliments I can give.    I saw her spiritual other half - Will - at WitchFest on 7/11/26 and she was in the hospital. Little did we know, she would unfortunately not return. Mara's presence in our community was constant. She was always the first to check in, to offer assistance or her thoughts and ideas.     "Her absence will be felt for a long time and the void will never truly be filled. It is up to us now to carry on her light." - Ariel Sirocco   Other than grieving, things are stable. Ariel and I doing ...

Opening Doors... and Stepping Through Them

I wrote this before our Sacred Space trip, but in my distracted brain I forgot to post it. The sentiment still stands - take your leaps and take your chances. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Husband and I have been going through a period of metamorphosis. We're moving homes to a place (still in NYC) that is better suited for us and the process has been... evocative. It isn't our planned final domicile, but it is home for the next few years while we both tie up some loose ends.  With this switch, we've been afforded quite a bit of opportunity. And sometimes - that's intimidating. I've noticed that we sometimes have this loop in our minds - "oh, I can't do X because I don't have (insert lack here - time/money/space)." And we tell ourselves these "excuses" to give ourselves a "reason" not to make changes for the better.  This shift in home is the start of many opportunities for ...

When You Feel You're Off Course

My fiance and I recently went public with our engagement (May 1). And we could NOT be more thankful and grateful for the love and support that people are showing us. And that had me thinking about - "How did I get here?" In the last 8 years, I've moved in the winter (twice) after being kicked out of long-term cohabitation situations. I've recovered (mostly) from the effects of two car horrific accidents that caused permanent damage, serious abdominal surgery, and the mental toil/toll of getting out of two long-term emotionally/mentally abusive relationships. I also managed to get my Masters degree while working full time (sometimes two and three jobs) and completed a 4 year structured Votary program in my Witchcraft/Pagan tradition that included uncomfortable self-examination, rigorous academic study, community service, and a lot of hard work... among other things. I have a friend who is going through an unimaginably tough time right now and they asked me, ...

Taking the Time to Breathe

I’m sure we’re all in different places right now. Some of us are unemployed, wondering when we may be FINALLY able to get through to the UI system (which in many states, is running on COBOL, REALLY?!); some of us are on the front lines in the emergency services and medical fields (which should be more appreciated and paid better than it is), and some of us are unable to stay home and protect ourselves because of their employers or our stores are considered “essential.” And unfortunately, some of us are grieving: mourning the loss of loved ones, either from COVID-19 or other unfortunate circumstances. I see you, I hear you. I cannot imagine the grief and pain that you’re going through, unable to mourn in the traditional ways. Know though, that your honored and loved Dead will be okay. Truly. If (the) God/s are all mighty - then certainly they must have provisions in place for this as well. This is a time of incredible uncertainty and fear for all of us - regardless of our situation. Previously on Buffy the... wait... wrong show

A quick recap of how my life has evolved since I began this blog: - I was about 6 months into my last year of Votary training, almost finished, but still working - All goes as planned I'll be Ordained in August. - I had just started one of two part time teaching jobs that made up almost a full time job - No benies anywhere. Now I'm full time at one place that values me, but still no benies. - My long-term time, short term cohabitating relationship was im/exploding. It took a total left turn in January and now I live somewhere else. And he is hopefully reaping what was sown. - During this relationship I had developed some crappy coping mechanisms. I'm working on those. Mostly of the good though. - I'm back to teaching and writing Witch classes again. I'm excited to get back in the fray. Keep an eye on this space. - Getting a computer - mine crapped out about November. So... hello more access to blogging. All I can say is: the Gods do the Work they do. And the...
